After many years of avoiding it, I decided to sign up for a Play To Site or better known a P2P site. I took the advice of many of the leading voice over professionals on the web and tried to market myself. Not too brag, I have over 5500 contacts on LinkedIn but only received literally one voice over job . I heard that these P2P sites paid really badly unless you are in the top tier, paying thousands of Dollars in membership fees. mismatched job opportunities, bad algorythems:  and a crowded field of professional voice over artists make it hard for a newbe to make money. To be fair, many VO talent think that they will make a lot of money signing up through these sites. My voice over marketing stratagy wasn’t working, so I took the plunge and signed on. Confession time, after auditioning for the last three months I haven’t received a job yet. However, I have noticed some advantages, like always having potential paying jobs arriving in my inbox. Lot’s of practicing and many different types of work to stretch myself and get out of my comfort zone. I still do my own marketing but P2P’s do have certain advantages if you know how to recognize them. Some VO artists can and do make a living on these sites and I’m happy for them. In the meantime I will continue to audition and enjoy what ever comes my way.
